all-female guard

On Tuesday, May 25th at our monthly SHRW luncheon, we commemorated Memorial Day and we saluted our veterans. Our Nellis AFB Honor Guard, all-female for this occasion, formally presented our colors, complete with the singing of our national anthem, followed by a narrated flag folding demonstration which was very, very impressive and somber.

Staff Sergeant Hannah Weaver, Training Non-Commissioned Officerin-Charge of Base Honor Guard, informs us that ceremonial guardsmen are individuals of good reputation, having integrity, ethical conduct and exhibiting standards which merit respect; responsible for protecting and overseeing the maintenance of standards on and off duty. It is truly an occupation which requires outstanding devotion and commitment to duty. By maintaining its history and exceptionally high standards, Honor Guard will continue to remain an icon of excellence. Twenty-five such guardsmen are stationed at Nellis.

Guardsmen support all functions including color guards, funeral honors, military cordons for  distinguished visitors, and flag details for retreat and retirement details. Their dedication to excellence contributes significantly to the relationship Nellis Air Force Base shares with the Las Vegas community.

The mission of the US Air Force Honor Guard is to represent Airmen to the American public and the world. The vision of the USAF Honor Guard is to ensure a legacy of Airmen who: promote the mission; protect the standards; perfect the image; and preserve the heritage.

Thank you again to the Nellis AFB Honor Guard – a truly remarkable experience with truly remarkable young ladies!
